The Great Explainer are a band from New Jersey that plays a melodic form of hardcore which they also mix in with punk and this is a review of their self titled 2014 album which was released by Panic State Records.
Drum beats and powerful sounding bass guitars start off the album before adding in heavy guitars and aggressive hardcore style vocals in the music and you can also hear elements of post punk rock in the bands musical style along with some melodic guitar solos and leads and there is also a touch of emo in the bands musical style.
Most of the music on the album is heavily rooted in the 80's and 90's melodic style of hardcore and they also mix in a great amount of punk rock influences while the vocals make the bands musical sound more aggressive and most of the tracks are very short in length with the longest one being a little over 3 minutes.
The Great Explainer goes back to the 80's style of melodic punk rock and mixes it in with the heaviness and aggressive vocals of hardcore to create a sound of their own while also bringing in some of the early emo and post punk sounds of that era, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark and real life themes.
In my opinion The Great Explainer are a very great sounding melodic hardcore punk band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album> RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Defeated" "Phrases & Logos" "Makeshift Cities" and "Creature Comforts". 8 out of 10.
